Rough Draft Audio Story on Sports Broadcasting

In my rough draft audio story I interviewed three of my collages from “Sports Sound-Off” a weekly sports radio show that I host with three other people, Matt Zimmer, Kyle Nishida, and Justin Rice. I interviewed all three of them separately from my Iphone and asked each of them one of the following questions: why did you choose Washington State University for Sports Broadcasting? What have you done with Sports Broadcasting at Washington State? And finally, what do you hope to do with Sports Broadcasting after when you graduate from Washington State? I made the audio story by having an introduction at the very beginning introducing myself and why I chose Washington State for Sports Broadcasting as well as my involvement with it. Then I asked my collages separately each of the three questions that I came up with, starting with Justin, then Kyle, and then finally Matt. Each of the interviews that I did were originally anywhere from 3-6 minutes. I asked each of my collages the three questions and then cut the interview down to each of them answering one question so the audio story would not exceed time frame of the story. And finally after when I am done with the interviews I have a quick conclusion to end the story. What I will need to work on is fixing the volume on my interviewees so they can be heard more clearly as well as fixing up technical errors with transitioning from one interview to the next or from asking a question to the interviewee speaking.

Matthew,
I think you’re off to a real great start with your story. It’s very clear how much you love sports! I like how you introduce yourself at the beginning and gave a brief over view of what we were getting ready to listen to. I also like how you end it by saying you wish them all luck in their future endeavors. When you spoke I could hear you just fine but when Justin, Kyle and Matt spoke I couldn’t hear them that well. So if you could adjust the volume so that we can hear them better. Also when you said Kyle’s name it sounded like it kind of got caught off so making sure the transiting between Justin and Kyle is smooth. I also heard a couple of umm’s throughout the story so try and get rid of those. My last suggestion is I think it would be cool if you had some sports music to start and end with like the Monday night football song. I think that would add a really cool touch to your story. I think you’ve done a great job thus far and I look forward to hearing your final product.

After listening to my classmates audio stories and after seeing their comments towards mine I have some ideas that I plan on incorporating in my final draft audio story and as result making the final product better. From my TA perspective Subuhi, the biggest issue to work on in my story is adjusting the volume of the people that I interviewed. Their voices are more difficult to hear in the story compared to mine. My classmates also added some very helpful comments as well. Like my TA noticed, my classmates have also said that they heard me perfectly fine but not the people I interviewed. Another issue is having a smooth transition from one interview to the next. One instance was transiting from my interview with Justin to Kyle. The interview with Kyle started abruptly and after listening to it again part of his name is cut out. I will need to fix that. This also goes along with cutting out the umms in the interview, there were a couple of umms in the interview that I will need to get rid of. Lastly, my classmates thought it would be more authentic if I add music to my story as an intro, one of classmates thinks The Monday Night Football Theme Song at the beginning of the audio story would be a good addition.

Matt-
Your voice is perfect for broadcasting. Very easy to listen too. I agree with you that you need to increase the volume on the interviewees. You asked them very good questions to make your story clear and informative. I would maybe add some music (like the jingle before you hear the news or a sports thing) that could really help with the tone of your story. Some editing looking to cut out gaps and unneeded words will help with the flow of the story. Overall I really enjoyed listening to your story and hearing the different perspectives from the people you interviewed. Your story seemed very well thought out and your interviewees seemed prepared. Good Job!

Mathew, I think so far you have a good draft. I like how your topic is about sports. I thought it was a god idea to explain what it is that you are going to talk about. Its so cool that you are a part of a radio show. I also like how in your description you explained the process of you draft, I might actually do that for my final story. I think the only few things you need to fix is your volume and to clean it up a bit. There were just a few “ums” and passes that need to be cut out. There are also parts that need to flow a little better. There was a time when you kind of cut off a name as well that should be edited. Other than those minor things it sounds good and I cant wait to see what your final one sounds like.

In your rough draft, I enjoyed your overall project, it showed how much you love what you do through your radio station, your passion is truly emphasized through this process and it is very inspiring. The questions you asked were also very positive and gave a further explanation of your project and what it meant to do what you do. I also liked that there wasn’t any music, I didn’t think it was necessary.
In the interview, I can’t hear at all what there response to your question is. It completely fades away and the sound is non existent. Your voice is loud, however his is not. This is through each of your interviewees. Your questions are very good and leave a good amount of interpretation for your friends, but I’m afraid I can’t hear their responses. Another thing I would suggest is maybe not sound as scripted in what you are saying. I can kind of tell what you are saying is perhaps read off of a sheet or something and doesn’t sound as natural as it could.
